Call of Duty 5 features 13 maps available for online play, and this article covers the Dome map. The premise of this map is that you are fighting at the top of a building with a collapsed dome, so it is very close quarters.

    Dome Map Guide

Call of Duty: World at War is also known as Call of Duty 5 and currently has a total of thirteen multiplayer maps of varying sizes in which you can go head to head against online opponents. This guide to the multiplayer maps describes each map in detail, plus give you some pointers as to where the best defensive locations and strike points can be found. Bear in mind, however, that this is by no means a definitive guide, and I encourage you to find your own favorite spots within the map.

The Dome map is the smallest map in the game, and often compared to the Shipment or Killhouse maps from Call of Duty 4 because of how quickly your soldier will spawn and die. You’re lucky to last more than ten seconds on this map, even with only a dozen or so players. The premise of this map is that you are fighting at the top of a building with a collapsed dome, so it is very close quarters. There are no vehicles in this map.

From looking at the graphic, you can see this map has two main areas. The first area is inside the dome part of the building, and it is bisected by a large wooden structure that I suppose was from the roof. It helps keep enemies from shooting all the way across the map at each other. The second main area is outside, and there’s a stairwell that runs from one end to the other, but it is divided by some monuments. Your soldiers usually spawn in some place in one of these two areas.

One of the common problems you may encounter on this map is ‘spawn killing’. This is where somebody just waits with their gun aimed at an area where enemy soldiers reappear, then they shoot the soldier before they even have a chance to play. Because of the map’s small size, there are only a handful of common spawn areas and this happens frequently. Although it is generally frowned upon in larger maps, there’s not a whole lot that can be done about it on this one. Just keep that in mind before you start cussing out any other players.

I think the inclusion of these small little maps is to help players rack up experience points and weapon kills in order to unlock better stuff. There are some online servers which host only this map for the sole purpose of letting people quickly build up their stats. In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, there were servers that only offered Shipment or Killhouse, so this is nothing new. Some might look upon it as cheating, but it really is not. I see nothing wrong with quickly opening up the game so you can have all the weapons that most everyone else is already using.
